Artist Survival Guide #08

In our ongoing series of Artist Survival Guides we’re again looking at the opportunities and resources available during lockdown and culture in quarantine. In this 8th edition we’re featuring a number of activities from local organisations.

The Freelands Foundation Emergency Fund has partnered with a-n to offer grants of between £1,500 – £2,500 to freelance creative practitioners. Deadline for applications is 18th June.

Creative Growth South has recently rebranded and offers free personalised support to Creative Businesses and Freelancers.

Counterpoint Arts have published the results of their recent COVID artists survey, their infographic paints a complex picture of the interruption caused by the pandemic to artists.

Live Art Local in Fareham have opportunities for up to 10 artists to run an online workshop, with a £150 fee for each workshop. Applications close on Friday 15th May.

New Forest based Spud Works currently have an open call for an Artist out of Residence which includes a £4,000 artist fee, deadline 1st June. Continuing the theme, Andover based Chapel Arts are inviting artists to respond to their Housebound theme for an online exhibition.

Self Publish Be Happy have been running online workshops on a range of self publishing methods. Our own Tower House resident Artful Scribe have also evolved their writing workshops to take place online.

Take a Part in Plymouth have shared artist Dana Olarescu’s cookbook, Towards Resilience: A Manual in Support of the Immune System, as a downloadable PDF.

A number of organisations have created creative home based activities for children including Southampton City Council. Both Design Week and Dezeen have picked out the best of some of the other children’s activities.

Laura Eldret’s film Waters, which is currently installed in the Contemporary Gallery at God’s House Tower is available to view online until 22nd May. The John Hansard Gallery have also commissioned an artist film; How to Fly by David Blandy is currently available to stream on their new website while the gallery remains closed.
