Arches Open Studios Programme Announced
‘a space’ arts are proud to announce their biggest open studios event to date, taking place on the 22nd and 23rd of June. The event will allow the general public to tour the studios, meet the artists themselves and experience their work and processes up-close. This year’s Open Studios event promises to be the best yet, with a weekend jam-packed with events, workshops and activities that anyone can participate in, all free of charge.
‘This is the 15th year of the studio project and we are proud to have 21 talented artists that choose to have the Arches as their home’s says Dan Crow, the director of ‘a space’ arts. ‘The studios have come a long way and it’s fantastic to see the project develop and go from strength to strength’. Over the weekend, visitors can expect artist-led interactive activities such as a glow-in-the-dark monster drawing session with J Walters or sculpture classes with Chris Cudlip, as well as something a little different in Shahaja Yoga meditation with Jamie J West and a flute making demonstration from Tim Caves. There’s something for everyone at the event, whether it’s getting stuck-in with hands-on workshops or just quietly wandering the studios to see local artists do what they do best.
Food will be served across the weekend, with Malaysian street food from Chubby Buns and vintage ice-cream and candy floss from Floss and Waffle. Visitors will also find a wide selection of craft beers from Southampton’s very own Butcher’s Hook, as well as gourmet coffee and tea from Chichester-based Really Awesome Coffee. On the Saturday, there will be a selection of Southampton’s finest local musicians playing live, as well as a pop-up shop that lets visitors take work from the Arches home with them.
