Ripe Mangoes Profile: Ashleigh Turner
Ripe Mangoes #02 opens next Friday. As we count down the days to the launch we’re profiling each of the Southampton Solent University, and the University of Southampton’s Winchester School of Art graduates who are exhibiting in the show. The focus this time is on Solent University Fine Art graduate Ashleigh Turner.
Ashleigh makes cluttered, confrontational artworks using paint and felt-tip pens from Poundland. Her practice stems from her lived experience as a fat, feminist, queer trauma survivor. The work is often humorous and relatable, littered with popular culture references, the language of social media and her own stream of consciousness.
“Text is an important part of my practice and I am particularly interested in the idea of the palimpsest and how it can combine and or conceal narratives whilst walking the line between being text and image.”
Join us on Friday 19th August at 6pm at the Alfred Arcade on Old Northam Road for the launch of Ripe Mangoes #02.
