Ripe Tomatoes: Now Live!
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us on Friday for the launch of Ripe Tomatoes.
We had over 90 participants on the night and lots of interesting questions and conversation about the exhibition and the artworks.
Thank you to all the exhibiting artists for their contribution on Friday and for all their hard work. And a big thanks to George Thom, who built this wonderful virtual version of the Alfred Arcade and has worked tirelessly over the last few months with myself and the artists to install the show.
Here’s a quote from the launch event:
“Our new RIPE artists, or the Tomatoes as they are now collectively known, have had a very different experience from the Bananas and Mangoes that came before them. With the outbreak of Coronavirus in March this year, they found themselves without access to studios and unable to meet with their tutors and peers in person. Then, as time went on and the country went into lockdown, it became increasingly obvious that they would also graduate without a degree show.
It seemed to us at ‘a space’ that given the situation, this year’s RIPE programme was more important than ever and so we increased our number from the usual 12 to a big and bountiful 18. Although we still couldn’t offer the artists an exhibition in real life, our virtual alternative has given each of them a chance to at least partially realise the outcomes of their Final Major Projects, and invite friends, family and members of the public to see the work for the first time”
You can now watch the recording of the artist tour below. Head to our Ripe Tomatoes exhibition page to read the chat archive from the tour and visit the exhibition yourself. You will need to be using a desktop or laptop to navigate the space. Please be patient, the exhibition may take up to 5 minutes to load.
We also have a new mobile version of Ripe Tomatoes, which can also be viewed through a VR headset.
