‘a space’ Welcomes new Members of Staff

‘a space’ arts is thrilled to have taken on two new members of staff in the past couple of months as the organisation begins a new chapter within the Arts Council’s National Portfolio this year. They will both play key roles within the team as the organisation continues to develop.

Gemma Gore, has become the new Studio Coordinator in a part time role and ensures the smooth running of both Tower House and Arches Studios.

“In my role of Studio Coordinator I am looking forward to building on the great work of ‘a space’ studios in both the Arches and Tower House. Working with the resident artists and creatives based across the studio venues to cultivate a culturally active hub within Southampton. A highlight will be the Arches Open Studio weekend, taking place the first weekend of June, where the resident artists will open the doors to their studio’s and invite the public to engage with activities and events.”

Meanwhile, Tony Spencer joins the team from Aspex Gallery in Portsmouth. Tony’s new role as Exhibitions Programme Manager is a new post for ‘a space’ arts and marks an exciting point in the redevelopment of God’s House Tower.

“The position as Exhibitions Programme Manager provides a perfect opportunity to work with the arts community in conjunction with Southampton’s rich historical collection.

The refurbishment of Gods House Tower into a gallery space is an exciting addition to Southampton’s creative public engagement. Showcasing national collections of significance alongside dynamic contemporary art activities and events is inspirational, and will continue to breathe new life into the historic buildings of the city.”
