We are looking for a new treasurer to join the 'a space' board

The registered charity ‘a space’ arts is at an exciting time of its development with 2021 set to be a significant year for the organisation as we re-open venues and recover from the global pandemic.

As an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation and having recently completed the refurbishment of Gods’ House Tower (GHT), a new arts and heritage venue in Southampton’s old town, the organisation has a lot to offer the city and region. The new GHT venue complements our ongoing work of supporting artists through development activities and affordable studio space.

Over the last 18-months we have introduced an experienced high-profile chair and to ensure we continue with high-levels of good governance we now seek a new treasurer to join our proactive board. We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced individual who can bring their financial management skills to the organisation to assist our future financial planning.

The current board consists of 8 dedicated members with a range of skills and experiences. The Board meets 6 times a year along with an AGM and an annual away day.  In addition the treasurer will work closely with the director and finance officer between board meetings, for approximately 6-8 hours per month, to assist in monitoring financial systems.

Specific skills and experiences

We are seeking an individual with experience in financial management and the ability to support the organisations staff and trustees.  The ideal candidate would:

  • Have time to work with the director and finance officer between board meetings for approx 6-8 hours a month.
  • Have demonstrable track record of working within finance management.
  • Have experience of the charitable sector or the ability to transfer existing experiences to the charitable sector.
  • Experience of working with auditors, HMRC along with both finance software and spreadsheet based reporting.

About the organisation

The organisation is a registered charity and creates opportunities for artists to develop their careers and for audiences to engage with high quality arts and heritage experiences.

Since 2000 we have developed a project portfolio including the Northam Road Gallery, the Bargate Monument Galley, ArtVaults, the Arches Studios, Tower House and the Sorting Office. Through our ACE NPO agreement we’ll deliver a range of new projects across the next four years to complement the existing portfolio, alongside delivering our new flagship venue GHT.
