Our Mission

‘a space’ arts is a visual arts organisation that supports artists and inspires audiences through exhibitions, studio spaces, professional development and by culturally reanimating lost spaces with arts and heritage.

Our mission has three core aims:

  • To support and champion the work of visual artists and create opportunities for them to thrive by establishing financially sustainable careers.
  • To increase support for under-represented artists and communities in Southampton and make a positive impact and a genuine difference to the cultural life of the city.
  • To create opportunities for the public to engage with, learn from and be inspired by the work of visual artists.

As an organisation we actively look to reduce barriers for artists applying for our opportunities and commissions, and we are committed to being fair, accessible, transparent and inclusive.

We offer a range of access support for artists, including alternative formats for information we release and submissions we receive as well as an artist access fund; please contact us so that we can discuss your individual needs and provide appropriate support for your application or project.
