Bryn Lloyd at the Hidden Wardrobe

Friday 19th July – Monday 12th August 2019

The Hidden Wardrobe, Old Northam Road, Southampton, SO14 0NZ

As part of this summer’s RIPE programme at Old Northam Road, artist Bryn Lloyd will be exhibiting a new installation in the window of the Hidden Wardrobe. Bryn exhibited at Ripe Bananas last year having graduated from Winchester School of Art in 2018.

Bryn manipulates materials to make them move; he uses motors and magnets to create kinetic sculptures that engage and entrance the viewer. Often constructed from recognisably recycled objects and technologies, his handcrafted mechanics are eerily attuned to the ever-shifting sights and sounds of the world around us.

“Incorporating both recognisable traditional culinary material and modern technology, this installation combines both organic and inorganic elements, developing a sense of subtle familiarity warping predetermined concepts. Enveloping the viewer with its glacial speed, the mechanics challenge the idea of perception creating an eerie sense of calm, distorted by motion.”
