Art for Climate Action: Get Involved in Our New Events Programme

We’re pleased to be kicking off spring with our exciting new Art for Climate Action programme.

Art for Climate Action is a programme that explores the role that art has to play in encouraging people to connect with environmental issues and bring about meaningful change in perceptions and behaviours, leading to climate action and climate solutions. We believe that art has the power to make a change and encourage radical thinking, enabling us to imagine and build a better future together.

Launching later this month is the Art for Climate Action: Community Projects, which will be followed by a series of exciting exhibitions and events throughout the season:

Thursday 27th April, 6.30pm to 10.30pm, God’s House Tower

Our monthly film club delves into the world of independent cinema, showcasing a diverse range of films from cult classics to the underground and lesser-known gems. We aim to provide a platform for unique and innovative storytelling, celebrating the creativity and artistry of independent filmmakers. Join us on our cinematic journey as we discover the best of indie cinema.

Friday 28th April to Sunday 21st May, God’s House Tower

An introduction to two newly commissioned projects led by artists Lizzie Jones and Harry Meadows. Acknowledging the need for collective and collaborative approaches to climate action, the artists have been invited to connect with communities in Southampton and co-produce a new body of work which will be exhibited at God’s House Tower in November this year.

Join artist James Hewins to reclaim and re-wild a patch of land near GHT as part of his project, Caustic Bloom.

Saturday 13th May, 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM, God’s House Tower

Join artists, Lizzie Jones and Harry Meadows as they explore ideas about art, activism and the climate crisis, asking questions such as: what role can art play in bringing about meaningful change? What are the challenges of taking Action on Climate?

Saturday 20th May, 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, God’s House Tower

Join the XR Art Group and find out how to create DIY artworks, from printing on clothes, to making flags and eye-catching posters!

What do you do with your knowledge about the current climate and environmental emergency? Climate Café is the space for people to get together and talk about how the climate and ecological challenges we face are making us feel.

Join us for our Artist Voices In Conversation event, as we explore the role of artists and art spaces in climate activism.

Our climate program explores the crucial role of art in inspiring individuals to engage with environmental issues and drive significant changes in their perceptions and behaviours. By fostering a deeper connection with the environment, we aim to pave the way for climate action and sustainable solutions. With a diverse range of exhibitions and events, there will be something for everyone to enjoy and learn from.
