The Lucky Dip winners have been revealed!

A big congratulations to the 10 winners of the Lucky Dip bursary scheme.

We asked special guest Mayor of Southampton Councillor Sue Blatchford to pick 10 names out of a hat. Those 10 artists will now receive £500 to make a new piece of work to be shown later in the year at the ‘a space’ flagship venue, God’s House Tower.

The winners are:

Issa Loyaan Farrah-Kelly

Svetlana Ochkovskaya

Amy-Jo Lyons

Alex Sutherland

Claudia Friend

Joana Rose Tidey

Vincent Warrican

Maryam Zahra Kazimi

Kwame Bakoji-Hume

Gullu Kandrou

As part of the ‘a space’ mission to work towards becoming an anti-racist organisation, 5 bursaries have gone to Black or non-Black artists of colour. This is one of the ways we are proactively trying to offer support to more diverse artists in Southampton.

If your name was not selected this time do not despair! There are many other ways that ‘a space’ can help and support you in your practice. Head to the Artist Development page to find out more and check out the Opportunities Bank on the GHT website to read about current opportunities and open calls as part of the God’s House Tower 2021 programme.

The Lucky Dip bursary scheme is the first in a number of opportunities created by ‘a space’ that are aimed at supporting artists with protected characteristics in our mission to create a more equitable cultural ecology in Southampton. Please get in touch if you would like to get involved in the conversation or if you have any ideas or feedback for us – we’d love to hear from you.

You could also join the GHT Futures Forum, a professional development networking group set up to foster ideas about how Black and non-Black artists and creatives of colour living and working in Southampton can get more support from ‘a space’ and the city.

The Lucky Dip winners will show their work in an exhibition at God’s House Tower later this year. Stay tuned!
