New artist opportunities this January

Having announced a series of artist opportunities in December, we’re happy to be releasing even more funded artist opportunities this January as part of ‘a space’ arts 2022 programme.

Across the ‘a space’ arts projects, we have a variety of creative opportunities for you to apply for as you look for your next big project or artwork. From sharing stories and shaping the next GHT exhibition to taking the lead in a community project facilitator role, the following opportunities are now open for submissions and you don’t want to miss out on applying:

  • GHT Creative Writing Group Facilitator – Following a successful 2021, we’re relaunching the Creative Writing Group and are now inviting applications from writers and creatives to facilitate the sessions.
  • Artist opportunity – We’re looking for artists to submit works for a new artwork that will be printed on a banner at the back of The Alfred Arcade on Old Northam Road, overlooking the railway. As the third in a series of banner commissions, this is your opportunity to have your work featured in the public domain.
  • Share your stories – Composer and sound artist Emily Peasgood is writing a song inspired by Southampton’s changing coastline for an upcoming exhibition at GHT and wants to hear your stories and memories. Perhaps you or a loved one worked on the docks? Or have lived in Southampton all your life and noticed how it has changed? Whatever your story, this is your chance to contribute to and be part of the GHT Story.
  • Performers and musicians – As part of Emily Peasgood’s exhibition, we are looking for five performers to interpret Emily’s song and perform at the exhibition launch event later this year. Whether you are a folk singer or a visual and sound artist looking to create a multi-disciplinary piece, the open call is open to all performing disciplines.

You can see our full list of opportunities, open calls and commissions by heading to our programme page here.

We realise that text-based applications are not suitable for everyone, so if you would like to apply in a different way, require the briefs in an alternative format or wish to discuss other options, please either email us on [email protected] or call 023 80 338 778.

We will be launching even more artist opportunities over the coming months. Sign up to our mailing list here to keep informed with the latest from ‘a space’ arts.
