Arches Studios
This summer, we’re celebrating 20 years of Arches Studios with a special exhibition at God’s House Tower
Inside the Artist’s Studio: 20 Years of the Arches offers a unique glimpse into the creative heart of our studio community, shining a light on the spaces where ideas take shape, evolve, and come to life.
Established in 2005 by ‘a space’ arts, Arches has grown into a thriving hub for artistic development in Southampton. This month-long exhibition celebrates the creativity, collaboration, and community that have defined the Arches over the last two decades.
Exhibition: Inside the Artist’s Studio: 20 Years of the Arches
Duration: Friday 11th July – Sunday 3rd August

About the Arches
The Arches Studios is a managed visual arts studio complex of 27 studios, for visual artists at all stages of their careers and working across all media, in which artistic practice can flourish.
The studios offer a vibrant environment where artists can develop their visual arts practice, contribute towards the creative community, engage with a programme of development activities and participate in an annual Open Studios event where the public are welcomed into the studios.
In addition to your personal studio, residents have free access to book other spaces for workshops alongside using the 7.5m project space for small-scale exhibitions. There is also a communal kitchen, meeting area and storage area as well as 24/7 access and wifi.
We aim to make the studios affordable and all residents benefit from discretionary rate relief passed on by ‘a space’ arts, the charity operating the studios.
Please note: as the studios benefit from discretionary rate relief, the Arches studios can not offer affordable studios to support commercial creative business activity or currently enrolled students. Please contact us before making an application if you are unsure about the commerciality of your business.
Price bands range between £87 to £147 p/m and are all inclusive.
Applications Process
*Please note: All the studio spaces are currently full, but please send your application in, to be added to the studio waiting list.
Studio spaces are awarded following an application and interview process, with applications assessed by the charity’s staff and a representative from the studio residents. If you wish to apply for a studio please download and complete the application form.
Artists are assessed according to the following criteria:
• A commitment to an ongoing visual arts practice
• A clear vision for the development of their work
• An engagement with the wider visual arts context
• How a studio space will benefit the applicant’s practice
• A willingness to make an active contribution to the Arches community
