Announcing 2022's Lucky Dip Bursary winners

‘a space’ arts is delighted to announce the 10 winners and recipients of 2022’s Lucky Dip Bursary.

We were thrilled to receive so many submissions for the second year of this experimental bursary scheme as we look to remove barriers for artists in Southampton and provide greater opportunities for global majority artists, with 5 out of the 10 bursaries awarded to global majority artists.

We invited special guest Veronica Gordon, founder of community media enterprise Our Version Media, to pick 10 names out of a hat as part of this experimental, lottery style selection process and we’re now pleased to announce the selected artists for Lucky Dip 2022 are:

Emmanuel Boateng, Dana Dohotaru, Josie Gray, Sonia Jackson, Edgar Lushaju, Katie Moody, Robin Price, Martin Ruddock, Mandy Smith and Wenjun Xie.

In addition to the 10 selected recipients, we will also be awarding an 11th bursary to Arches Studios resident and well-loved artist Dave Hubble. Having recently endured a difficult period of health, we hope this bursary will support Dave as he returns to his creative practice.

The selected artists will receive £500 to create a new piece of work which they will develop over the following months ahead of a group exhibition later this year at God’s House Tower. We’ll be introducing you to the lucky winners over the next few weeks on our Instagram. Stay tuned!
