Vote for God’s House Tower in the Solent People's Choice Awards
Posted: 05/09/2022
We’re delighted to announce ‘a space’ arts headline venue, God’s House Tower, has won a Solent Quality Place Award for 2022 and has now been shortlisted as a finalist for the People’s Choice Awards.
The Solent’s architecture and public space design awards recognise beautiful and thoughtfully designed spaces across the Solent region that spark joy and benefit communities. The awards also seek to recognise developments that contribute to improving the economic, social, cultural and environmental life of those who live within the region. Previous winners of the awards have included the West Quay South complex in Southampton and the Hot Walls area in Portsmouth. The People’s Choice Award, featuring a shortlist of sites chosen by the judges, offer the public the chance to vote for their favourite.
As part of a £3.1 million scheme funded by the National Heritage Lottery fund and public grants, architects and heritage consultants Purcell were appointed as Conservation Architects to transform GHT into a cultural centre that could host art exhibitions, events and cultural activities. The venue re-opened to the public in September 2019 and is now a vibrant entrance to Southampton’s historically significant Old Town. GHT has quickly become a beacon of the city’s thriving arts scene, with a number of acclaimed artists having exhibited there.
The public vote is open from 5th September, 2022 and closes on the 3rd October 2022. The winner of the People’s Choice Award will be announced later in October.
