Artist announced - Christmas tree commission

‘a space’ arts is pleased to announce artist Carma Masson has been selected for the Christmas Tree Commission.

Carma is the owner of Playground, a young multidisciplinary design studio based in Manchester. Key to their work is a strong narrative, bold use of colour, and most importantly a sense of playfulness. Their work ranges from architecture and interiors; to installations and public art; community workshops and everything in-between. With each new project they like to engage with a different design discipline; sharing knowledge and skills, and collaborating with designers and makers, businesses, organisations and the local community along the way.

This new commission will see Carma create an eye-catching Christmas Tree sculpture, developed in response to ‘a space’ arts ongoing commitment to raising awareness about the current climate emergency, as well as reducing and mitigating our own environmental impact. Carma’s work will serve as a reusable and eco-friendly Christmas Tree which will be on display this Christmas, and in future festive periods.

On being selected for the commission, artist Carma Masson said ‘Playground is so excited to be selected for this commission, with community and sustainability being at the heart of everything they do.

Did you know on average it takes 10 YEARS for the average 6ft Christmas Tree to grow? With the effects of the environmental crisis becoming more and more apparent in the UK and a direct link between the climate crisis and deforestation, ‘a space’ arts asks ‘Don’t Kill a Tree for Christmas.’

You can see Carma’s installation on display at God’s House Tower this festive season, from Friday 9th December 2022.
