Hidden Histories Trail - The Early Black History of Southampton's Old Town

Saturday 6th April 11:00am – Saturday 3rd August 2024 11:00am

God's House Tower, Town Quay Road, SO14 2NY

Join us for the Hidden Histories Trail, a guided tour and journey into the Early Black History of Southampton’s Old Town between the 15th-19th Centuries. From Black privateers to plantation owners, this tour shines a light onto moments from within Southampton’s Medieval Quarter to share lesser known stories of Southampton’s early Black history beginning in the 15th Century.

Hidden Histories Trails are led by a team of friendly and knowledgable volunteers who are all accredited white badge guides supported by the Institute of Tourist Guiding. They have undergone an intensive training programme as part of Hidden Histories, developing and leading on their own research projects exploring the city’s early diverse history, and they can’t wait to share their knowledge with you.

The tour starts and finishes at God’s House Tower and will be available monthly. The tours cost £5 per person and the proceeds from ticket sales will go towards continuing our work to research, learn and share the diverse history of Southampton’s Medieval Town in new and creative ways.

Our tours will take place from 11am-13pm on the following dates:

Saturday 6th April, Saturday 4th May, Saturday 1st June, Saturday 6th July, Saturday 3rd August, Saturday 7th September.

Comfy shoes are recommended, as well as clothing for all weathers!
