International Women's Day: SOUP Event

Community, Free, In Person

Friday 8th March 2024 6:00pm - 9:00pm

God's House Tower, Town Quay Road, Southampton, SO14 2NY

Since 2022, ‘a space’ arts has been celebrating International Women’s Day by hosting a silent auction of original artworks made by women.

These events have been a great success, and this year we want to continue supporting creativity and inspiring change by awarding a bursary for a creative, community-focussed, women-led project in Southampton or the surrounding areas. This new £2,000 bursary could support a new initiative, or help to contribute to the ongoing work of an existing project.

What we loved most about our silent auction events is that everyone could get involved, whether they were bidding in the auction or submitting an artwork. So, we’re keeping that ethos at the core of this project and letting YOU, the public, vote for which proposal you’d like to see awarded the funding at this event.

The winning pitch will recieve the £2,000 bursary for their project and will be exhibiting at God’s House Tower in the Proejct Space this time next year to share what they’ve been able to achieve with the funding.

What to Expect on the Night

The doors will open at 6pm for you to come in and make yourselves at home. As you arrive you’ll be handed two very important tokens; one gets you a free bowl of soup (kindly provided by The Chilli Chain) and the other is your voting token.

At around 6.30pm we’ll head up to the main gallery where we will hear from each individual or group pitching for your vote. We’ll have breaks between pitches, giving you time to grab a drink or some soup and chat with your fellow attendees.

Once everyone has had their chance to pitch it’ll be time for the all-important vote. The project with the most votes will be announced at the end of the event.

…Can’t attend in person?

We’ll also be streaming the event live on instagram, and you’ll even be able to cast your vote via instagram. Keep an eye on our website and socials for updates.
