Mentor Mondays: Lisa Slominski

Artist Resources, Artist Voices, Opportunities

Monday 20th June 2022 9:00am - 12:00pm

Online - Zoom

Part of ‘a space’ arts expanded Artist Voices Programme, Mentor Mondays invites visual arts professionals from across the UK to hold 1-to-1 sessions with artists & artworkers from the SO postcode area.

For the second in this new series of Mentor Mondays, curator, writer and cultural worker Lisa Slominski will be offering support, advice and feedback for SO artists. This opportunity would be particularly suited to neurodiverse visual artists, or those who are self-taught or have developed their artistic practice through non-traditional routes into the arts sector.

Mentor Mondays #2 – Monday 20th June. There are three 45 minute sessions between 9am – 12pm. The sessions will take place online via Zoom.

About the Host

Lisa Slominski is an American curator, writer and cultural worker based in East London. She advocates for neurodiversity in the contemporary art current discourse, and the historical framework and placement of artists considered ‘self-taught’ or ‘outsiders’. In 2020, she co-founded the inclusive international curatorial platform Art et al. that focuses on international commissions and collaboration between arts professionals with and without disability.

“Nonconformers”, her first art history book on self-taught artists and artists coming from unexpected circumstances, was published in April 2022 by Yale University Press. Lisa is dedicated to providing a curatorial voice of diversity and inclusivity within the contemporary art context. She has hosted mentoring sessions for SPACE Studio’s Advice Bureau and mentors several artists in more in-depth through Arts Council England funded projects.

As an organisation we actively look to reduce barriers for artists applying for our opportunities and commissions, and we are committed to being fair, accessible, transparent and inclusive.

We offer a range of access support for artists, including alternative formats for information we release and submissions we receive as well as an artist access fund; please contact us so that we can discuss your individual needs and provide appropriate support. About Mentor Mondays

Mentor Mondays is an Artist Voices project which looks to support the professional development of SO artists and artworkers through engagement with a range of prominent arts professionals.

On one Monday of every month we will offer three 45 minute 1-to-1 sessions which will be available to book on a first come first serve basis via our website.

1-to-1s will be led by mentors with wide-ranging professional visual arts experience: curating, writing, fundraising, publishing, commercial art and more. These sessions are designed to support with critical feedback on work, funding advice, and developing career strategies.
