Mentor Mondays: Lisa Slominski

Artist Resources, Artist Voices, Opportunities

Monday 20th June 2022 9:00am - 12:00pm

Online - Zoom

Part of ‘a space’ arts expanded Artist Voices Programme, Mentor Mondays invites visual arts professionals from across the UK to hold 1-to-1 sessions with artists & artworkers from the SO postcode area.

For the second in this new series of Mentor Mondays, curator, writer and cultural worker Lisa Slominski will be offering support, advice and feedback for SO artists. This opportunity would be particularly suited to neurodiverse visual artists, or those who are self-taught or have developed their artistic practice through non-traditional routes into the arts sector.

Mentor Mondays #2 – Monday 20th June. There are three 45 minute sessions between 9am – 12pm. The sessions will take place online via Zoom.

About the Host

Lisa Slominski is an American curator, writer and cultural worker based in East London. She advocates for neurodiversity in the contemporary art current discourse, and the historical framework and placement of artists considered ‘self-taught’ or ‘outsiders’. In 2020, she co-founded the inclusive international curatorial platform Art et al. that focuses on international commissions and collaboration between arts professionals with and without disability.

“Nonconformers”, her first art history book on self-taught artists and artists coming from unexpected circumstances, was published in April 2022 by Yale University Press. Lisa is dedicated to providing a curatorial voice of diversity and inclusivity within the contemporary art context. She has hosted mentoring sessions for SPACE Studio’s Advice Bureau and mentors several artists in more in-depth through Arts Council England funded projects.
