One Day Retrospective: Emma Richardson

Thursday 26th July 2018 2:00pm - 8:00pm

One Day Retrospective is a series of exhibitions hosted by ‘a space’ arts and located at the Arches Studios. Every other month, a new artist will be invited to install their work in Arch 04 and contribute to a small program of activities and events.

For visitors, the experience will provide a unique insight into the processes and development of an artist’s practice. For the artist, taking part in a One Day Retrospective provides the opportunity, time and space for them to reflect on their artistic career and receive feedback from new and established audiences.

For the next in our ongoing series we’ve invited former Arches resident Emma Richardson back to Arch 04. Join us on 26th July from 2pm with a talk and drinks reception at 6pm.

Born in Southampton in 1982 Emma Richardson is a pioneer of contemporary abstract art.

Revelling in the unpredictable nature of her chosen medium of oil and charcoal on linen, Richardson intuitively shapes these tools of colour and movement into forms laden with multiple illusions.

In doing so she calls to attention the fluid nature of the human psyche with a focus on basic human drives.

Since graduating with a BA Honors in Fine Art from Wimbledon School of Art in 2004, Richardson has split her time between her fine art practice and performing in the band, Band Of Skulls.

Richardson currently works and lives in her hometown.
