Bring On The Buns!

We are excited to announce that Southampton-based bakers Hoxton Bakehouse will be running the GHT cafe.

The sourdough specialists are in the process of setting up kit and equipment in our ground floor cafe-bar, ready to welcome in GHT visitors with the city’s best coffees, teas, buns, sandwiches and Viennoiserie.

Hoxton owners Darren Bland and Florence Hellier, along with pastry chef Craig Ellis, are coming up with a GHT daytime menu inspired by the building’s incredible history. And we’re in great company, as they already supply baked goods to some of the best hotels and restaurants around, including Lime Wood, Chewton Glen, The Pig, Four Seasons and River Cottage.

GHT director Daniel Crow says working with Hoxton Bakehouse is a “dream come true” – and it’s not just down to the quality of their delicious cinnamon buns. He added: “We wanted to work with a good quality local provider, and with Hoxton baking their bread and pastries just up the road in the centre of Southampton, we knew they would fit in perfectly with our plans to provide one of the freshest and tastiest breakfasts in the city.”

Did you know God’s House Tower was the town mill in the 1500s? Mechanisms used to power the sluice gates were also used to power the town mill, which provided medieval Southampton bakers with their flour. Nice little link!

We can’t wait to welcome you into our new venue – opening dates will be announced soon.

You can also visit us on September 28th for Music In The City. Please note that access to the building will only be to the ground floor on September 28th while we install exhibitions elsewhere in the building. More info on the festival here:
