Coming soon to GHT - knit the walls: the finale exhibition
Posted: 18/10/2022
knit the walls is returning to God’s House Tower this November for its spectacular finale exhibition, as the community group pick up their knitting needles for the last time.
Having first launched in 2016, ’knit the walls’ is a public art co-creation project involving many of Southampton’s residents and visitors in the co-production of a knitted, woollen version of the city’s medieval walls. Led by artist Sarah Filmer, the project invites participants and audiences to reconnect with stories, memories and alternative histories that are lost over time and unrecorded in books and archives, through creative practice.
From Friday 11th November until Sunday 4th December, GHT will become a hub for creativity and community as we celebrate the lasting legacy of this popular project. Across four weekends, you’ll have the opportunity to learn more about this well-loved co-created project through the busy exhibition programme including a mesmerising installation, free collaborative workshops, knitting activities and events. This is your last chance to get involved with the project before it comes to an end.
The knit the walls exhibition is free to visit and on display at GHT from Friday 11th November to Sunday 4th December. Find out more and check out the programme of activities and events by heading to the GHT website here
We are also excited to be hosting an exhibition launch event on Friday 11th November from 6pm – 8pm, where you can get a first look at the exhibition and hear from knit the walls founder sarah and participants who’ll be sharing their memories of the project collected over the years.
