'For My Only Love, Yours in Body and Soul' opens this weekend at GHT

Head down to God’s House Tower this weekend where you can explore our latest exhibition by Ebun Sodipo.

Opening this weekend at our flagship venue God’s House Tower, ‘For My Only Love, Yours in Body and Soul’ is a new exhibition by multi-disciplinary artist Ebun Sodipo, made specifically as part for our Black History Month programme.

The exhibition is centred around three stories in the form of love letters. Told from the point of view of a woman in Southampton yearning for her lover who is always at sea, they explore the changing attitudes towards Africans and their descendants in the city between the 16th and 20th century.

Although the letters span centuries, the protagonist is the same woman. Her long life stretches beyond the boundaries of what’s possible and invites audiences to imagine a speculative past, blurring the lines between fact and fiction, histories and hearsay.

Featuring engrossing large-scale collages of archival imagery and an emotive reading from Ebun, visitors can immerse themselves in the stories and create links between what they hear and what they see.

The exhibition is free to visit and on display at GHT until Sunday 6th November. You can find out more here

‘For My Only Love, Yours in Body and Soul’ is presented as part of a wider programme of exhibitions, events and activities organised by ‘a space’ arts in partnership with Black History Month South as part of Black History Month 2022.
