Funding Success Stories: Kye Wilson

Through our Artist Development programme, we provide free support to help artists in Southampton develop their artistic practice and establish financially sustainable careers and we’re thrilled to see so many of our artists awarded funding to support the development of new work. Over the past few months, we’ve been celebrating these success stories in our artist community and our next featured artist is Kye Wilson, who was recently awarded a DYCP grant from Arts Council England. We caught up with Kye to find out more about his plans for the funding and experience with ‘a space’ arts.

What the funding will do to help your practice?

My Develop Your Creative Practice project will help me to develop my immersive moving image work into VR/360° environments. Research and development are key to me taking this next step as the work is not possible without the correct training and access to equipment.

How does it feel to be awarded funding?

Being given this award will provide me with the funding needed to engage in training, learn from mentors and to create specific documentation to develop a new VR/360° prototype/artwork.

How was your experience in receiving support from ‘a space’ arts?

‘a space’ arts have regularly supported me over the years, primarily through 1-to-1 meetings with various members of the Artist Development team.  This includes helping me put together this successful DYCP application. I feel that ‘a space’ arts will continue to support my artistic career development as I continue to build my profile and reputation.
