Introducing the Making Room Residency
Posted: 31/01/2022
We recognise the barriers artists face in having access to a dedicated workspace for their practice and in our commitment to supporting accessibility for all of Southampton’s visual artist community, we are pleased to announce our new ‘a space’ arts programme ‘the Making Room Residency’, which will offer a funded studio residency for four visual artists in the local area.
Between 1st April 2022 to 31st March 2023, there will be four three month studio residencies available to artists within the Southampton and South West area, providing artists a space to experiment and further develop their practice. The Making Room Residency will support artists who experience racism, come from disadvantaged socio-economic background, identify as neurodivergent, disabled or D/deaf, and those with caring responsibilities, by providing crucial studio space without the limitations funding or inaccessible space can often present. Successful applicants can take advantage of a variety of free opportunities and resources including a monthly 1-to-1 meeting with Artist Development Officer Mary Cork, access to Arch 04 Testing Space and support from the Communications team in developing video content to use for promotion.
Applications for the Making Room Residency close on Monday 14th March at 9am. You can find out more about the Making Room Residency and how to apply here
