Meet our new Artist Development Officer

Introducing Mary Cork to the ‘a space’ arts team

‘a space’ arts are delighted to welcome Mary Cork to the team as our newly appointed Artist Development Officer.

With over 15 years experience in the non-for-profit and arts sector, Mary is bringing a strong understanding of not only the arts sector but also the challenges artist face and the importance in providing opportunities for support and growth.

The Artist Development programme is at the core of ‘a space’ arts mission in supporting local artists to develop their practice and creating financially viable careers and Mary’s role will have a core focus continuing to deliver artist development activities

On joining the team, Mary said: It feels incredible have joined the ‘a space’ team, helping them in their mission to cultivate and support creative visual arts communities in the SO area.

Like my colleagues, I believe that art is essential for a thriving and vibrant society. In these especially challenging times it is more important than ever to shore up the foundations of our visual arts community through offering artist development opportunities and programmes.

Support for visual artists has formed the core of my professional experience for the last two decades, and as an SO local I feel so lucky to now have the opportunity to work in a more focused way with artists in the area I live.”

Mary is currently working on a refreshed Artist Development programme for 2022 which will see the return of 1-to-1’s. She will also be offering her insight and guidance at our ACE Funding Workshop on Wednesday 12th January 2022. Details on how to book your place will be announced soon.
