New exhibition opens this weekend at GHT

We’re delighted to be launching our latest exhibition this weekend at God’s House Tower.

Opening this Friday, When I Grow Up I Want to Be a Ship is a new installation by award winning composer Emily Peasgood which explores Southampton’s complex and enduring relationship with the sea, from the 1600s to the present day and into the future.

Having previously worked with local creatives to research the history and local narratives of the sea in the city, Emily has written and composed a song informed and inspired by local histories and local people. Through this exciting new exhibition, you’re invited to immerse yourselves in the story of the Solent as the sound installation echoes through the majestic gallery space.

We will also be celebrating the launch of the exhibition at a launch event this Friday evening where you’ll have the opportunity to explore the exhibition up close and enjoy an exclusive live performance of the song from Emily. Local musicians Benji Heinke and the Bees Knees will also be performing, offering their own unique musical interpretation of Emily’s song. The launch event will take place at God’s House Tower from 6pm – 10pm. Tickets are free and can be booked on Eventbrite

When I Grow Up I Want to Be a Ship is open at GHT from Friday 11th March until Sunday 8th May. Find out more and plan your visit here
