New Year's updates from the Arches
‘a space’ arts is pleased to announce the date for this year’s annual Arches Open Studios, which will be held on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th July. Arches studio residents and ‘a space’ staff are busy planning programme of events and activities to take place at the studios across the weekend.
There’s currently a studio available at the Arches, this would be perfect for a visual artist looking for individual workspace that’s part of a hub of other visual artists. The flexible, affordable rates are all inclusive of utilities. You can apply directly though our website or get in touch with Studio and Projects Manager, Gemma Gore, to arrange a viewing or for more details.
Studio resident Amy Scott-Pillow is currently preparing for her exhibition, Island Room, at God’s House Tower launching on 24th January. The show is informed by her family history and draws inspiration from local archives and will feature a newly commissioned installation that recreates interiors and objects from ocean liners.
The most recent Critical Exchange took place in Arch 04 on Monday 6th January. Open to all and led by Arches residents Celeste Ingrams and Jilly Evans the peer network group uses Liz Lerman’s Critical Response Process to support artists’ work through facilitated conversation. So far eight artists have presented their work across four meetings. Artists to have shown their work so far are: Leandro Alenfel, Jilly Evans, Vivian Chinasa Ezugha, sarah filmer, Deborah Gearing, Libby Russell, Mandy Smith, and Joey Walters.
Arch 04 is part of an ongoing offer to artists in the area as Testing Space, where visual artists can hire the space free of charge to test out new work or ideas (for up to 12 days). In the next few weeks both Nathan Stafford-King, and Jo Carson will be utilising Testing Space. To enquire about using the space yourself for an ongoing project contact our Artist Development Officer, Alys Scott-Hawkins.
