Ripe Tomatoes - Artists Announced!
We’ve been working hard over the last month to bring together a new group of graduates from Solent University and Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton for a band new virtual exhibition – Ripe Tomatoes.
Launching on 21st August 2020, the project will provide an opportunity for 18 emerging artists to exhibit a recent body of work in a new virtual gallery space: The Alfred Arcade. The artists will meet via Zoom, exhibit online and engage in critical debate; forming networks and friendships that will help them sustain a fruitful visual arts practice here in Southampton.
We can now reveal a list of the exhibiting artists:
Maryam Zahra Kazimi
Megan Georgia Smith
Over the next few weeks we’ll be profiling each of the ‘Tomatoes’ so that you can find out more about the artists and their practices – so watch this space!
Ripe Tomatoes is part of the RIPE graduate programme, now in it’s third year. The project launched in 2018 with an exhibition called Ripe Bananas and then continued in 2019 with Ripe Mangoes. Both these exhibitions took place at the Alfred Arcade on Old Northam Road – this year, following the outbreak of Covid-19, we’ve had to adapt the programme and move Ripe Tomatoes online.
The virtual gallery which will host Ripe Tomatoes is modelled on the Alfred Arcade and was created by WSA alumni and artist, George Thom.
Join us at 7pm on Friday 21st August for the live launch event! We will meet on Zoom and take an artist lead tour of the virtual Alfred Arcade featuring live art performances, followed by a Q&A.
