Fruit Market, Southampton

‘a space’ arts was approached by National Regional Property Group to develop a permanent public art element to their new development at the site of Southampton’s old Fruit Market.

This was a significant development for the city and included 279 new city centre apartments along Back of the Walls. To reference the site’s location along Back of the Walls, where Southampton’s old town wall once ran we worked with a fabricator to build and install an ambitious public artwork based on an initial design by Dan Rawlings.

Built out of jet cut COR-TEN Steel that’s designed to rust when exposed to outdoor conditions the artwork formed a boundary to the development that retraced the previous town wall.
