Gascony Place, Bournemouth

‘a space’ arts were asked by Stonewater Housing to coordinate a permanent public art commission for a small housing development on Anjou Close in Bournemouth that referenced historical links of the suburban area.

As the road and the others around have names inspired by the crusades we worked with award winning Chichester based furniture maker Edward Johnson, and poet Amy Lloyd to create a response to the development. We had been allocated an area around a protected oak tree and worked to develop a scheme that worked in harmony with the root protection plan in place.

The result was a flowing wooden pennant featuring a newly commissioned poem, ‘Stables are like Castles’ by Amy Lloyd. The poem was hand carved by Sarah Goss, and the work was installed in September 2017.
