About Ida
Ida, skate coach and founder of Get Up Skate School, got back into skating just over 2 years ago, when she braved attending a We Skate Soton meet up solo. And from there it’s completely taken over her life. She loves transition and bowl skating, as well as cruising around and pump tracks. She started Get Up Skate School so she could share her passion for everything skateboarding represents to her – community, self expression and having fun. She can’t wait to continue this and get more people on boards!
- We Skate Soton at GHT: Painting Workshop – Sunday, 16th March (2 PM – 4 PM)
We Skate Soton and artist Kayleigh Hannah have joined forces to host a skateboard deck painting workshop, taking place in the café space at Gods House Tower.
Participants will be given a piece of a pre-loved skateboard and invited to decorate it in whichever style that speaks to you.
Kayleigh will be on hand to share some creative techniques and offer any advice you may need, and at the end of the afternoon you will take home your very own work of art!
All materials will be provided; Acrylic paint pens and paint. Tea and coffee will be available to purchase from the cafe.
About Kayleigh:
Kayleigh Hannah is an artist from Hampshire. She has been skateboarding for over 25 years and it brings a huge amount of joy into her life. She has found that it is another way for her to express her creativity. Having painted from a young age she loves to experiment with different mediums, most recently with eco clay paint which is better for the planet. Kayleigh doesn’t like to follow art rules, taking inspiration from what she experiences in the wonderful world that we wander through. Using her paint brush to reflect the dance of nature and the wheels of her board to roll along the earth as it tumbles through the cosmos.
- We Skate Soton at GHT: Basic Ramp Skills Skateboard Lesson – Saturday, 22nd March (11 AM to 1 PM)
Join skate coach Emily, co-founder of We Skate Soton and coach with Get Up Skate School, as she takes you through all the basic skills you need to shred on a mini ramp!
This lesson is perfect for you if you can ride around on a skateboard but haven’t done much transition skating yet. Emily will help you crack essential ramp skills like pumping and kickturns, in a small, supportive group environment.
The lesson will take place on the mini ramp in the main gallery space at Gods House Tower, the ramp is part of the We Skate Soton exhibition, We Skate, we vibe. The gallery will be open to the public during the lesson so there may be visitors to the gallery walking around during the lessons.

About Emily:
Emily, co-founder of We Skate Soton and skate coach with Get Up Skate School has been skating for a little over 3 years, as soon as she stepped on a board she completely fell in love with it! She always wanted to skate when she was younger, but she had never seen any girls skating so didn’t have the confidence to try it. This led to her wanting to create a space where marginalised genders felt safe to try skating, and experience all the joy and fun that comes with it!
