Social Responsibilities
‘a space’ arts, is committed to becoming a more inclusive, anti-racist and environmentally responsible organisation. One that better supports the artists we work with, the audiences we provide for, and the wider communities we are part of.
Our Social Responsibility is centred around three key areas: Accessibility, Anti-Racism, and Climate Action.
Each area is supported by its own action plan, shaped through conversations, collaboration, and reflection with our team, artists, and community. These plans are not final statements but living documents; they are tools to guide our ongoing efforts, help us hold ourselves accountable, and strengthen our organisation through meaningful change.
Accessibility Action Plan
We’re working to remove barriers (visible and invisible) so that everyone can access and participate in what we do. Our Accessibility Action Plan lays out the steps we’re taking to ensure our spaces, programmes, and practices are inclusive by design, not by exception. Co-created with input from our community, it reflects our commitment to embedding access across every aspect of our work.
Anti-Racism Action Plan
Being anti-racist means actively working against racial inequity, in our structures, our programmes, and the wider cultural sector. This Action Plan is our roadmap for building a fairer organisation that not only supports global majority artists, but also reflects the diversity of the city we serve. It’s a commitment to ongoing learning, meaningful change, and holding ourselves accountable.
Climate Action Action Plan
In addition to our stated mission we have taken the strategic direction of becoming an organisation working and developing a Climate Action Plan to deliver commitments over the next two years along with a series of activities.
